OptIN is the Trade School for Christian Formation

We help practice the skill and learn the tools of living the Christian life. Like a trade school, OptIN units are designed for concrete outcomes: tell a story of God showing up in your life, develop a meaningful prayer practice, learn skills to deepen your experience of worship, or strengthen the connections that make the church. OptIN will guide a group–(or a family with OptIN Kids) in hands-on practice of Christian skills.

Core Practices

OptIN starts with three core practices: Building Stories, Practicing Prayer, and Rehearsing Worship. These are so basic to the Christian life that we can easily forget to intentionally practice them. But these practices of story, prayer, and worship, are foundational for Christian flourishing. Whether you look at individual Christians, at Christians families, or at congregations as a whole, the better our stories, our prayer, and our worship, the more connected we are to what God is up to.

We also have two other units, Being Church and Growing Rhythms. These helps churches and families move Jesus to the center of their way of life. We recommend all of these be done as a group tied to a local church. Our goal is to practice LIVING CHRISTIAN LIVES, which is best done with the folks we share life with.

Core Practices

Story

Through the Story Unit, we learn the skills needed to tell a story of God’s activity in our lives, and then, we put those skills into practice. By the end, all participants will tell one particular story of God’s activity in their life.

Prayer

There are so many incredible ways to pray, so the Prayer Unit offers a sampler of different prayer modes. The goal is to become familiar with new prayer tools in order to build an intentional practice of DAILY prayer.

Worship

The Worship Unit is aimed at practicing different elements of worship so that our corporate worship is deeper and richer. Prayer, fellowship and forgiveness, all those actions of worship are skills that we can rehearse.

Building new ways of life

Being Church

Through the Being Church Unit, participants are equipped for life together in their particular congregation. This unit is great for new and old members, and building connections, as the group explores their church’s mission and finds where they belong in it.

Leaders

The Exercising Leadership Cards help leaders practice and explore their unique calling as leaders in the church. Designed to be flexible, this material fits before board or committee meetings, or can be grouped for a longer retreat setting.
